Mahama Sets 2028 Target for Completion of Navrongo–Wa Road Corridor

President John Dramani Mahama has set 2028 as the target for completing the entire Navrongo–Chuchuliga–Tumu–Wa road corridor, a major route linking the Upper East and Upper West regions.

<h1><br></h1><p>The President announced the target during an inspection of ongoing construction works on the Chuchuliga–Chiana section of the road as part of his two-day working tour of the Upper East Region.</p><p>The approximately 260-kilometre corridor is expected to improve connectivity between the two regions and facilitate movement between Bolgatanga and Wa through Tumu. The wider project has been divided into several lots and awarded to different contractors.</p><p>President Mahama described the road as strategically important and said its completion formed part of his administration's broader objective of establishing reliable road connections between Ghana's regional capitals.</p><p>The project is being implemented under the government's Big Push infrastructure programme. According to the President, the initiative prioritises critical road projects and provides annual budgetary allocations to support their execution.</p><p>He also assured contractors working on Big Push projects of prompt payment, saying certified payment certificates would be settled within 30 days. The arrangement, he explained, was intended to enable contractors to mobilise resources and maintain the pace of construction.</p><p>President Mahama recalled that the road project was first initiated in 2016 but subsequently stalled. He said his administration had revived the project under the Big Push programme and was committed to ensuring that contractors remained on site.</p><p>He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the section being undertaken by MyTurn Construction and said engineers had indicated that the project was progressing according to schedule.</p><p>The President therefore expressed the hope that the section inspected could be completed in time for commissioning next year, while setting 2028 as the broader target for completing the entire stretch to Wa.</p><p>Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza also said contractors along the corridor had returned to work following government efforts to clear outstanding payments. He expressed confidence that the works would substantially improve the condition of the route connecting Bolgatanga and Wa.</p><p>The government says completion of the corridor will improve transportation, strengthen regional connectivity and support economic activity between communities in the Upper East and Upper West regions.</p><p><br></p>
