Rosemond Obeng: I Joined NDC to Rescue the Soul of Ghana, Not for Personal Gain
Accra, Ghana — Presidential Staffer Rosemond Obeng has defended her controversial switch from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that her decision was guided by conviction and a desire to “rescue the soul of Ghana,” not by personal ambition or political reward.

In a video shared by 1957news on social media, the former aide to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said her move to the NDC was deliberate and principled, rejecting claims that she crossed over in search of a government appointment or other benefits.

“What I did was to rescue the soul of the country. It’s sad that some people think I did it for personal interest,” she said in the video, speaking firmly as she addressed the criticism that has followed her political switch.

Obeng stressed that her decision was not the result of any secret arrangement, negotiation or promise of favour from the governing party. She maintained that she joined the NDC because she believed it represented a better path for the country and that her choice was made after careful reflection on Ghana’s future.

She also made it clear that she has no intention of returning to the NPP, describing her move as final and rooted in principle rather than convenience. According to her, those questioning her motives are wrong to assume that her political realignment was driven by self-interest.

Her remarks have reignited public debate over her defection and subsequent appointment as a Presidential Staffer, with critics continuing to question the timing of her move while supporters argue that she has every right to align herself with the political tradition she believes in.

The video has since generated wide discussion online, adding another layer to the ongoing conversation about political loyalty, conviction and the growing tensions between Ghana’s two major parties.
