The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged the public to exercise extreme caution in the use of electrical appliances and installations during the rainy season to prevent fires, electrocutions, and other avoidable disasters.
<p>The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a public safety warning, urging residents to take extra precautions when using electricity during the ongoing rainy season.</p><p>According to the Service, heavy rains, flooding, and damp conditions significantly increase the risk of electrical faults, short circuits, electrocution, and fire outbreaks. The warning comes amid growing concerns over electrical-related incidents that typically rise during periods of intense rainfall.</p><p>The GNFS advised households and businesses to regularly inspect electrical wiring, avoid using damaged appliances, and ensure that electrical installations are properly insulated against water exposure. Residents were also cautioned against handling electrical devices with wet hands or operating appliances in flooded areas.</p><p>Fire officials further encouraged the public to switch off electrical appliances during thunderstorms and power fluctuations, noting that lightning strikes and electrical surges can cause severe damage to property and pose serious threats to life.</p><p>The Service stressed the importance of engaging certified electricians to repair faulty wiring rather than attempting do-it-yourself fixes that could worsen the risk of accidents.
