Police Arrest Six Over Adwoa Safo Shooting Incident at Kwabenya

Accra, June 21, 2026 — The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in Accra.

<p>The arrests were made following a police operation at a private residence where a ceremony was being held on Sunday amid ongoing tensions linked to a leadership succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission.</p><p>According to a statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit, police personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call from the residence and commenced investigations into the incident.</p><p>Police said preliminary investigations established that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, popularly known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, when the incident occurred.</p><p>Investigators disclosed that Sarah Adwoa Safo later arrived at the premises and reportedly sought entry but was denied access by security personnel stationed at the residence.</p><p>According to the police statement, armed security officers at the location allegedly discharged firearms during the ensuing confrontation, resulting in injuries to the former legislator. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.</p><p>A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine containing five rounds of ammunition, and communication equipment.</p><p>The six suspects, all private security guards, have since been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra to assist with ongoing investigations.</p><p>Police say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons who may have been involved in the incident.</p><p>Earlier reports indicated that Ms. Adwoa Safo sustained injuries during the shooting and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment. Sources close to the former MP have stated that she is in stable condition.</p><p>The incident occurred against the backdrop of an ongoing dispute over the succession of the late Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group.
