NADMO, Zoomlion Launch Three-Day Nationwide Clean-Up Exercise to Combat Flooding
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has launched a three-day nationwide clean-up exercise aimed at reducing the risk of flooding across vulnerable communities. The initiative seeks to clear choked drains, remove waste from waterways, and promote environmental sanitation ahead of the peak rainy season.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has commenced a three-day nationwide clean-up exercise as part of efforts to mitigate flooding and improve environmental sanitation across the country.

The exercise, which targets flood-prone communities, involves the desilting of drains, clearing of refuse dumps, removal of waste from waterways, and public education on proper waste disposal practices. Authorities say the intervention forms part of a broader strategy to reduce the impact of seasonal flooding that continues to affect lives, property, and economic activities in many parts of the country.

Launching the initiative, officials emphasized the importance of preventive measures in disaster management, noting that blocked drains and indiscriminate waste disposal remain among the leading causes of urban flooding.

NADMO indicated that the exercise is intended not only to improve drainage systems but also to encourage community participation in maintaining clean and safe environments. Residents have therefore been urged to support the exercise by observing sanitation regulations and avoiding practices that obstruct the free flow of water.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has deployed personnel, equipment, and logistical support to assist in the operation. The waste management company is expected to work closely with local authorities and community leaders to ensure effective execution of the exercise in identified hotspots.

According to officials, recent flooding incidents in several communities have highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action to address sanitation challenges. They stressed that while government agencies and private partners can provide support, sustained community involvement remains critical to preventing recurring flood disasters.

The three-day exercise is expected to cover major urban centres and selected communities that have historically experienced flooding during the rainy season. Authorities hope the initiative will significantly reduce flood risks while reinforcing public awareness about environmental responsibility.

NADMO further called on citizens, businesses, and community groups to actively participate in the clean-up effort, describing environmental sanitation as a shared responsibility that requires collective action.

The collaboration between NADMO and Zoomlion reflects growing efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience as the country continues to grapple with the challenges posed by climate variability and rapid urbanization.
