Mahama Announces State Assets Protection Bill to Safeguard Public Property

Accra, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will introduce a new State Assets Protection Bill aimed at preventing the arbitrary sale or transfer of public assets and strengthening accountability in the management of state property.

<p>Speaking at the Ghana Civil Society Forum 2026, President Mahama disclosed that Cabinet has directed the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice to prepare the legislation following Cabinet approval.</p><p>According to the President, the proposed bill will establish clear legal guidelines governing the disposal of state lands, buildings, factories, industries and other public assets to ensure that no government can dispose of them without due process.</p><p>Mahama said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote transparency, protect national resources and improve public confidence in the management of state property.</p><p>The President also announced Cabinet's approval of the <strong>National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (2026–2030)</strong>, describing it as another key step in strengthening integrity, accountability and the fight against corruption in Ghana.</p><p>Once laid before Parliament, the State Assets Protection Bill is expected to provide a comprehensive legal framework for safeguarding government-owned assets and regulating their disposal.</p>
