Madina, Greater Accra Region, Ghana — The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has commenced a demolition exercise targeting structures deemed unauthorized or situated within protected public spaces.
<p>The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has begun a large-scale demolition operation aimed at removing structures identified as unlawful developments within parts of the municipality.</p><p>Municipal authorities say the exercise forms part of efforts to reclaim public lands, improve urban planning and address growing concerns over encroachment on waterways, road reservations and other protected areas. Officials involved in the operation indicated that affected structures had been identified following assessments conducted by the assembly.</p><p>Heavy equipment and enforcement personnel were deployed to various locations as the exercise got underway. Several structures were demolished during the initial phase of the operation, while property owners and occupants observed the proceedings under the supervision of municipal authorities.</p><p>Municipal Chief Executive Ibrahim Faila Fuseini stated that the exercise is intended to ensure compliance with planning regulations and reduce challenges associated with uncontrolled development. According to the assembly, unauthorized construction has contributed to drainage problems, congestion and safety concerns in parts of the municipality.</p><p>Authorities further indicated that notices had been issued to some affected property owners before the commencement of the exercise. The assembly maintains that enforcement actions are necessary to preserve public infrastructure and protect designated lands from encroachment.</p><p>The demolition exercise is expected to continue in phases across selected areas identified by planning and development authorities.
