GoldBod Dismisses Minority's Loss Claims, Cites GH₵5.44bn Audited Surplus
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has firmly rejected allegations by the Minority in Parliament that the institution is making losses, insisting that its audited financial statements for the 2025 financial year demonstrate strong financial performance.

The rebuttal follows claims by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, suggesting that GoldBod was recording losses and mismanaging public resources.

Responding to the allegations, GoldBod said the assertions were inaccurate and did not reflect the institution's audited financial position. According to the Board, its 2025 accounts, audited by the Auditor-General, recorded an operational surplus of GH₵909.7 million and an overall surplus of GH₵5.44 billion.

Speaking to the media, GoldBod's Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, stated that the audited financial statements had been published and were available for public scrutiny, stressing that the institution had "nothing to hide."

Minkah explained that despite a decline of more than 23 percent in international gold prices since February 2026 and a reduction in pricing incentives from approximately 14 percent to six percent, GoldBod has remained financially resilient and continues to pursue its strategic objectives.

He noted that the Board remains on course to achieve its 2026 targets, including increasing gold purchases, generating foreign exchange, expanding Ghana's gold reserves, promoting local value addition and implementing sustainability initiatives within the mining sector.

GoldBod also referenced an assessment by the Institute for Economic and Fiscal Policy Governance, which it said supports the Auditor-General's findings that the institution has not incurred losses as claimed by the Minority.

The Board urged the public to rely on audited financial reports and verified information rather than political commentary, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability through the regular publication of its financial statements.

GoldBod further stated that it remains focused on maximising the economic benefits of Ghana's mineral resources while supporting national economic growth through prudent financial management and responsible stewardship of the country's gold sector.

The latest exchange comes amid heightened political debate over the country's economic performance following the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, with both government and opposition offering differing assessments of the management of key state institutions.

Photo credit: citinewsroom, godbold, Sammy Gyamfi
