<h1><br></h1><p><br></p><p>The decision was ratified during an Extraordinary FIFA Congress, making the 2030 edition the first FIFA World Cup to be held across three continents—Africa, Europe and South America.</p><p>According to FIFA, the opening commemorative matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will honour the centenary of the inaugural FIFA World Cup, which was hosted and won by Uruguay in 1930. Following those fixtures, the remainder of the tournament will be played in Morocco, Spain and Portugal.</p><p>FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the hosting arrangement as a celebration of football's rich history while showcasing the sport's global reach. The governing body said the unique format would unite nations across continents in commemorating one of the biggest milestones in international football.</p><p>The announcement also means Morocco will become only the second African nation to host FIFA World Cup matches after South Africa staged the tournament in 2010. The North African country will co-host the competition alongside its European neighbours, Spain and Portugal.</p><p>At the same FIFA Congress, <strong>Saudi Arabia</strong> was confirmed as the host of the <strong>2034 FIFA World Cup</strong> after submitting the only valid bid for the tournament.</p><p>The 2030 World Cup is expected to feature 48 teams, following the expanded format introduced at the 2026 tournament, and will be one of the most geographically ambitious sporting events ever organised.</p>
