Dennis "Miracles" Aboagye Granted GH¢50 Million Bail in EOCO Probe

Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Dennis "Miracles" Aboagye, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as investigations into the alleged misappropriation of public funds continue.

However, his legal team says the conditions are extremely difficult to satisfy, describing them as "cruel and oppressive." Lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea argued that it would be practically impossible to secure properties worth GH¢50 million within the time available to secure his client's release.

EOCO arrested Mr. Aboagye after he arrived at the Kotoka International Airport from an overseas trip. The anti-graft agency says the arrest forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD Secretariat.

According to EOCO, the investigations stem from a petition submitted by the current Executive Secretary following a forensic audit covering the period between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025. Mr. Aboagye, former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah, and other persons are being investigated for alleged offences including conspiracy to steal, stealing, causing financial loss to the state, using public office for profit, money laundering and related offences.

EOCO has stressed that the grant of bail does not end the investigations, which are still ongoing. The agency says it remains committed to conducting the probe professionally while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons under investigation. No formal charges have yet been announced, and Mr. Aboagye remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Photo credit: Modern Ghana, Mr. Dennis Aboagye
