Chris Brown Ordered to Pay US$12.9 Million to Former Housekeeper After Dog Attack
LOS ANGELES, California | July 2, 2026: R&B singer Chris Brown has been ordered to pay US$12.9 million in damages to his former housekeeper after a Los Angeles jury found him negligent in a lawsuit stemming from a violent dog attack at his home.

The civil case arose from a 2020 incident in which Maria Avila, who worked as Brown's housekeeper, was mauled by a 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd named Hades while taking out the trash at the singer's Tarzana residence. Court documents state that Avila suffered severe injuries to her face and arm, leaving her permanently disfigured and requiring multiple surgeries.

Following a two-week trial, the jury ruled that Brown and his company were responsible for negligence and awarded Avila US$12.9 million in compensation. The court also awarded US$885,000 to Avila's sister for emotional distress and US$50,000 to her husband.

During the trial, Brown testified that he had warned the housekeepers about the dog's aggressive nature and said he left the scene after the attack on the advice of his manager because he feared intense media attention. The plaintiffs disputed that any such warning had been given.

The verdict marks another significant legal setback for the Grammy-winning singer, who continues to face scrutiny over a series of legal controversies throughout his career.
