The revised academic calendar was approved by the university’s Business and Executive Committee at a meeting on Friday, October 16, following disruptions caused by the industrial strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
Under the new arrangements, students are expected to report to campus and their respective halls of residence from October 19. Orientation for fresh students will take place from October 21 to 23, ahead of the commencement of lectures.
The university has urged students to pay the required fees and complete their academic registration online through the appropriate Student Information System (STS) or DiGradsys portal.
Management has encouraged students to comply with the registration requirements and follow the prescribed procedures to ensure a smooth return to campus and the resumption of academic activities.
Reopening Follows Suspension of GAUA Strike
The revised schedule follows GAUA’s decision to suspend its nationwide strike on October 16 after engagements with the government over outstanding concerns affecting university administrators.
The industrial action, which began on August 10, disrupted administrative operations at public universities and contributed to delays in the reopening of the University of Ghana and other institutions.
The dispute centred largely on concerns about disparities in market premiums and related allowances between teaching and non-teaching senior staff.
Following discussions with the relevant government institutions, the association announced the suspension of the strike and directed its members to resume work on Monday, October 19.
The development has paved the way for the University of Ghana to proceed with its revised reopening arrangements.
Students Urged to Complete Registration
With the new dates announced, students are expected to complete their registration and other necessary preparations before lectures commence.
Fresh students, in particular, are expected to participate in the scheduled orientation programme from October 21 to 23 to familiarise themselves with university procedures and campus life.
The university’s reopening marks a key step towards restoring its academic calendar after the disruption caused by the industrial action.
Lectures for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year are scheduled to commence on October 26, and students have been encouraged to take note of the revised dates and make the necessary arrangements to avoid delays in their academic activities.
