Two Port Health officers stationed at Kotoka International Airport have been dismissed following allegations that they extorted money from passengers, in the latest disciplinary action linked to efforts to curb misconduct at Ghana's airports.

The reported incident involved the officers allegedly demanding money from passengers travelling with foreign passports.</p><p> The dismissal comes amid intensified efforts by airport authorities to tackle extortion and other forms of misconduct involving personnel working within Ghana's airport terminals.</p><p> In November 2025, GACL launched its “Help Fight Extortion at Our Airports” campaign, urging passengers to report illegal monetary demands involving staff and officials from agencies operating at the airports, including Port Health, Immigration, Customs, Police, NACOC, airlines and private security companies.</p><p> The latest disciplinary action is also consistent with warnings issued by the Ghana Health Service to Port Health personnel. In December 2025, GHS Director-General Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea cautioned officers against taking money illegally, selling fraudulent health documents or facilitating travellers and goods outside established procedures. He warned that personnel found engaging in such conduct could face sanctions and prosecution. </p><p> Port Health officials play a key role in protecting Ghana's public health at points of entry, including conducting health screening and checking vaccination documentation. GACL's passenger guide confirms that Port Health services are located at Terminal 3 of Accra International Airport and provide yellow-fever vaccination and other primary services. </p><p> The dismissal of the two officers underscores growing scrutiny of conduct by officials who interact directly with international travellers and comes as authorities seek to improve Ghana's reputation and passenger experience at its major entry points.</p>
