Utd 0-1 City .... as it happened

Manchester City produced a remarkable display of resilience at Old Trafford on Sunday, defeating Manchester United 1–0 despite playing with 10 men for more than an hour of the Manchester derby. The visitors were reduced to 10 players in the 23rd minute when Phil Foden was shown a straight red card following an altercation with Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

With City facing the majority of the match a man down, United appeared to have been handed a major opportunity to take control of the game. Instead, it was City who showed greater composure when it mattered most. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, finishing from a cross after a lengthy controversial VAR review eventually confirmed that the striker was onside. The goal proved decisive as City defended their advantage with discipline for the remainder of the match. Arsenal and City now sit on top of the standings with 12 points. 

Manchester United created opportunities to get back into the game, but their finishing let them down. Kobbie Mainoo came close and hit the post, while other efforts from United's attacking players failed to beat Manchester City's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The defeat will raise serious questions about United's start to the Premier League campaign. The loss means United have now suffered their second defeat in their opening four league matches, leaving Michael Carrick's side with only four points.

Losing a Manchester derby at home is always painful, but the manner of this defeat will make it even harder for United supporters to accept. Having a numerical advantage for more than an hour and still failing to score highlights a worrying lack of cutting edge and raises concerns about the team's ability to turn promising situations into results.

The season is still young, but performances and results like this will inevitably intensify the scrutiny on Carrick and his players. Manchester United's season is beginning to take a worrying shape, and the club cannot afford to let things drift any further.

For now, the message is simple: the season can still be turned around, but Manchester United need to start doing it quickly.
