<h1><br></h1><p>The development follows a formal notice submitted to the Registrar of the High Court, General Division, in Accra, by Gyamfi’s solicitors, Ayine &amp; Partners.</p><p>In the notice dated August 26, 2026, the lawyers informed the court that they had received express instructions from Mr Gyamfi to accept service of the writ of summons and all accompanying originating processes on his behalf.</p><p>The lawyers subsequently requested that the court take note that any service of the writ and related documents could be effected through their chambers at East Legon in Accra.</p><p>They also asked that the court records be updated accordingly.</p><p>The move clears a procedural hurdle in the legal dispute between Mr Afenyo-Markin and Mr Gyamfi, which followed a series of public exchanges over Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme and the operations of GoldBod.</p><p>Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, announced in Parliament on August 24 that he had initiated legal proceedings against Mr Gyamfi over statements concerning him which he considers defamatory.</p><p>The dispute escalated after Mr Gyamfi described the Minority Leader as an “extortionist” during their public exchanges.</p><p>Mr Afenyo-Markin has rejected the allegation and indicated that he would use the courts to seek redress.</p><p>The latest notice from Mr Gyamfi’s lawyers, however, is procedural and does not amount to an admission of the allegations contained in the suit. It simply confirms his willingness to receive the court processes through his legal representatives.</p><p>The legal dispute comes against the backdrop of a broader disagreement between the Minority Caucus and GoldBod over the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.</p><p>Mr Afenyo-Markin has raised questions about reported financial losses associated with the programme and has called for greater accountability and scrutiny of the transactions.</p><p>Mr Gyamfi has defended GoldBod and challenged the Minority Leader’s interpretation of the programme’s financial performance.</p><p>The two sides have continued to exchange arguments publicly, with the controversy now moving into the courts.</p><p>With Gyamfi’s lawyers authorised to receive the writ, the substantive defamation proceedings can proceed once the documents are formally served and the necessary court processes are completed.</p><p>The case is expected to attract considerable public attention because of the positions held by both men and the wider political and economic debate surrounding Ghana’s gold-trading sector.</p><p>Photo courtesy: Hon.
