Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation Samuel Nartey George has announced four revised DStv subscription packages, alongside plans for a nationwide crackdown on illegal pay-TV streaming and pirated decoders.
The new packages, scheduled to take effect on November 5, will replace the existing six-tier structure with four options: Starter at GH¢50, Select at GH¢100, Sports at GH¢250 and Ultimate at GH¢570 per month.
The revised prices are intended to make legitimate television content more affordable and provide subscribers with alternatives to illegal streaming services. The GH¢250 Sports package, in particular, is expected to offer access to major football competitions, including the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
Mr George said the government had worked with Canal+ and MultiChoice Ghana to develop the new pricing structure while preparing measures to combat piracy.
The proposed enforcement strategy includes blocking internet addresses associated with illegal streaming. However, implementation is awaiting final legal clearance from the Attorney-General’s Department.
The government says the combined approach of lower subscription costs and stronger enforcement is intended to protect content owners, support the creative industry and improve access to legitimate pay-TV services in Ghana.
