Speaking at the third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, Putin expressed Russia’s readiness to assist African countries in tackling climate-related challenges, including droughts, changing rainfall patterns and associated health risks.

The summit has brought together African leaders, including Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, to discuss cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, education, health and economic development.img_6ae32872d3c7d_1793271922.webp

Putin also highlighted Russia’s experience in combating infectious diseases and indicated that support for African countries could include laboratory facilities. He further pointed to existing Russian energy projects across the continent and opportunities to develop Africa’s largely untapped hydropower potential.

Africa contributes relatively little to global greenhouse gas emissions but remains highly vulnerable to climate change, which threatens agriculture, water security and livelihoods across many countries.

However, specific funding commitments or detailed timelines for Russia’s proposed climate support were not outlined in the announcement.
