The youth wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has staged a demonstration in Accra, named ‘Yɛgye Yɛ Sika’, to demand accountability over government expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa and the issuance of diplomatic and service passports.
The protesters are demanding a detailed account of the reported GH¢16.4 million discrepancy in the expenditure on the evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians from South Africa.
They are also calling on the government to release invoices, contracts and proof of payment for the charter flights used in the evacuation exercise.
The demonstrators further want details of diplomatic and service passports issued since January 2025, including the identities of recipients and the authorities responsible for approving them.
The protest forms part of the NPP youth wing’s call for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and official documents.
