The Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has criticised individuals he describes as fake prophets in Ghana, urging genuine ministers to speak out against those undermining the credibility of the prophetic ministry.

Speaking during a church service, Pastor Otabil described many people who identify themselves as prophets as “crooks”, arguing that their lifestyles and conduct do not reflect the Christian values they claim to uphold.

He questioned the authenticity of many self-proclaimed prophets, alleging that some engage in immoral behaviour, make false predictions and mislead their followers in the name of spiritual revelation.

Pastor Otabil also expressed concern about practices he considers occultism, spiritism and necromancy, insisting that such activities should not be confused with biblical prophecy.

He, however, clarified that he believes in the existence of genuine prophetic gifts and maintained that the problem lies with individuals who misuse the title of prophet.

The pastor challenged genuine ministers to identify and expose those whose actions, in his view, are damaging the reputation of the prophetic ministry.

His comments have triggered reactions within Ghana’s Christian community, with some prominent pastors questioning his general assessment of prophets and defending the role of genuine prophetic ministry.

The remarks have once again brought public attention to concerns about accountability, spiritual leadership and the growing influence of prophetic ministries in Ghana.
