The building, which was under construction, collapsed in the busy Eastleigh neighbourhood, leaving a massive pile of concrete and debris. The ground floor and basement reportedly housed several shops that were occupied at the time.
Kenyan authorities initially reported seven people missing, while the Kenya Red Cross said it was verifying reports of additional missing persons. One man was rescued from the rubble on Saturday and taken to hospital.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said all 67 construction workers at the site had been accounted for, with one injured and the others escaping unharmed.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the building did not have an occupation certificate, raising concerns about compliance with building regulations. Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the collapse.
Rescue operations are continuing, while investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish whether any safety regulations were breached.
