According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Boateng admitted that he and his co-conspirators operated the scheme between 2013 and March 2023, deceiving victims through fake online relationships and false inheritance claims before persuading them to transfer large sums of money.
As part of his plea agreement, Boateng agreed to pay US$4.4 million in restitution to compensate the victims. He was arrested in Ghana in May 2025, extradited to the United States the following month, and has remained in custody since.
Boateng is expected to be sentenced on September 8, 2026, in the U.S. District Court in Arizona.
