The Ghana Education Service (GES) says continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) are expected to return to school next week, nearly three months after the school was temporarily closed following violent disturbances on campus.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 22, GES Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi said preparations were far advanced for the students to resume academic activities. However, the Service has not announced a specific reopening date.
The school was closed to continuing students on August 5 after unrest reportedly involving an attack on the headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, and damage to school property. Six students were arrested in connection with the disturbances.
First-year students, meanwhile, have been attending classes since September 18.
The planned reopening comes as investigations into separate allegations involving the headmaster continue. The GES has interdicted him pending the outcome of the investigations.
The Service says further updates on arrangements for the return of continuing students will be communicated as necessary.
