Chelsea’s Curse Continues
The Blues are now winless in their last five home league games against newly promoted sides; their worst run in 78 years!
Chelsea 2–2 Hull City
Chelsea’s frustrating home run continues after the Blues were held by Hull City at Stamford Bridge. It is another disappointing result for Chelsea, especially against a newly promoted side. The Blues are now winless in their last five home league games against newly promoted teams; a run they have not experienced in 78 years.
That is a shocking record for a club like Chelsea. Despite scoring twice, Chelsea could not hold on to the lead or find the winning goal when it mattered. Hull City stayed in the game, fought until the end and deservedly walked away with a point.
For Chelsea, it is another two points dropped at home. The problem is no longer just about one result. Chelsea are struggling to make Stamford Bridge the fortress it used to be.
Newly promoted teams are coming to West London with confidence, and Chelsea are giving them reasons to believe they can get something from the game. A 2–2 draw against Hull City leaves Chelsea with plenty to think about. The curse continues. The points keep slipping away. And Stamford Bridge is no longer looking as intimidating as it once did.
Another worrying stat for Chelsea: the Blues have conceded in every Premier League game so far this season. Very very disappointing for a team with such high expectations. Defensively, Chelsea just don’t look solid enough at the moment. Too many goals are being conceded, and too many chances are being allowed.
Xabi Alonso’s side may be going downhill when it comes to defending.
The attack can score goals, but if Chelsea keep conceding at this rate, winning games will always be difficult.
